Marelli Racing ECU Description For RS457 Bike V1.1
Aprilia Racing has developed a dedicated ECU for track use for the RS457 vehicle. The advance and injection map are dedicated for the SC racing exhaust and the electronic management of the intervention parameters and control systems is recalibrated for specific use on a closed circuit. The Marellii Racing ECUs have been specifically created for this purpose and compared to the standard ECU. They have the following characteristics:
- Injection and advanced map for racing exhaust without catalytic converter.
- Implemented self-learning system of gearbox version, road and racing.
- Eliminated the management of canister valve, Lambda probes, secondary air and rear light diagnostics.
Technical operating characteristics compared to the standard map:
- All engine maps are “full power” and for racing exhaust systems
- Also be used with the ABS system. In any case, the ABS control unit must always remain connected to the vehicles electrical wiring and in its original position.
Description of the maps in the Racing control unit
- SPORT: Map with faster and more aggressive response to the throttle command.
- ECO: Map with less aggressive response to throttle command than the SPORT map.
- RAIN: Map with an even less reactive response to the throttle command than the ECO map with a very soft power delivery, developed specifically for surfaces with poor grip.
- It is recommended to start with the ECO map and TCS at level 3.
- Gear shift flash setting on dashboard at: 9700 RPM.
Notes on TCS and ABS parameters:
- It is recommended to always keep the TCS parameter activated at least on level 1.
- The ABS system has no influence on the general operation of the vehicle if it is not connected to the motorcycles braking system.
Note:
- This ECU must be combined with the switch on the clutch lever. Removing this system will compromise the correct operation of the control unit.
- When removing the side stand from the motorcycle, the “side stand disable plug” with code COE20109 must be mounted on the vehicle wiring harness, to eliminate the error in the control unit that is generated by the lack of the sensor.
- The fall sensor must remain connected to the wiring and in its original position.
- When using it for the first time, it is recommended to start with a high TCS level and then gradually reduce it.
- Important: only use spark plugs of the type described in the use and maintenance manual in the engine.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
- This control unit has been designed for closed circuit motorcycle competitions, for this reason its use on public roads is strictly prohibited.
- The control unit must be installed by expert personnel equipped with the official handheld instrumentation for configuring the motorcycle parameters.
- This component is not covered by a warranty and for this reason the manufacturer assumes no responsibility for problems or damage caused.
- Always remember that making changes to the electronic parameters can cause serious consequences for the motorcycle and its driver.
Description of the AQS Function (assisted shift system)
- The strategy allows you to change gear in UP and DOWN without using the clutch, the downshift (blipper) can be enabled or disabled from the dashboard.
- Important: The “clutch pressed” state inhibits AQS and ATC.
The ECU (control unit) self-learns the type of gear lever used (Road and Track). The ECU performs first assisted gear shift according to the settings previously used (flashing gear icon on the dashboard), once the previous configuration is confirmed or an inversion of the lever compared to the state is detected, the new configuration is learned (fixed icon).
Meaning of AQS icons:
- Gray Icon: down shift not enabled
- Orange Icon: down shift enabled
- Flashing Icon: gear lever check and learning status
- Red Icon: QS sensor fault
Note – The system is only active above approximately 3000 RPM.
IMPORTANT – With the RS457 racing ECU the “quick shift” system is enabled by default, so if the sensor on the gear shift rod has not been mounted and connected to the bike, the quick shift status icon on the dashboard will always be red.
It is possible to activate or deactivate the downshift function (blipper) through the dedicated function in the dashboard menu. To perform this operation, refer to the instructions that are explained in the “use and maintenance manual” delivered with the vehicle.
